A Brief LYONS History
Once upon a time, in 1996, three churches (Ballard First Lutheran,
Phinney Ridge Lutheran and Queen Anne Lutheran) got together to talk about what it might look like to do youth ministry. They
put together a board of directors that established LYONS (Lutheran Youth Of North Seattle) as a non-profit organization, charged
with the duty of providing youth ministry opportunities for the youth in those churches, and in the general area.
A group of congregations in the area who saw the benefit of
collaborative youth ministry inquired about becoming a part of LYONS. This idea
generated some energy and 7 Lutheran congregations joined LYONS bringing the total number of LYONS congregations to 10. The LYONS congregations are now Ballard First, Bethany, Crown, Denny Park, Luther
Memorial, Our Redeemers, Phinney Ridge, Queen Anne and St. John United Lutheran.
Our office is located at Crown Lutheran Church in North Ballard,
who graciously lets us use the space at no charge. We hold events for youth in 6-12 grade at all the churches and all over
the city. Our events are based on the five words found in the mission statement: Fun, Witness, Service, Education and Worship.

Our program is overseen by a board of volunteers from each
of the LYONS congregations who meet on a monthly basis. We also have awesome volunteers from all of the congregations. With
the help of all these hands, lots of good ministry happens!
